It’s been a while since my last blog, so here is an update of what’s been happening on the book front.
My first novel, which will be entitled The Beige Beetle, is coming along nicely... I’ve now written 20,000 words most of which are (I hope) spelt correctly. The two main characters are starting to take shape and I am indebted to my work colleague and close friend Karlie for the help she is giving me with the creation and development of the female character, who is called Kerry.
The book is intended to be deep, thought-provoking, perhaps even distressing in places, but with plenty of light-hearted asides to hopefully make it worthy of being read. I’m finding it quite hard writing from the perspective of an eighteen year-old boy (although I was one once), which makes Karlie’s help all the more important because as far as teenage girls are concerned, my knowledge is limited to say the least!
I have recently acquired a batch of ten ISBN numbers meaning that when complete, my debut novel might just be available at a bookstore near you... although there’s every chance it might not!
In the meantime, the update, revised, call it what you will edition of Desperately Seeking Susan Foreman will soon become the first book available through Richard Kirby Publishing... yeah I know, the name isn’t overly original. The retail price will be £6.99 (or two for £13.98!!!) and with Christmas just around the corner...
The final photo which will be included in the book arrived earlier this week... it is of Camille Coduri, who played Jackie Tyler. I’m waiting for the final draft from the printer and the book will hopefully go on sale from November.
Also, I am going to re-issue Only the Thunder, which commemorated the tenth anniversary of Gateshead Thunder RLFC. There will be a new foreword and cover and hopefully one or two local shops might be willing to take a few copies...
So it’s all happening. Feel free to leave a comment or even an advance order and watch this space!!!
All my own work... almost.
