During the week, I stumbled across a photo of a number of Marilyn Monroe books owned by a young lady named Dorina who... with my limited knowledge of languages... was Italian. Lying alongside Michelle Morgan’s Marilyn Monroe: Private and Undisclosed was another book... my book... Something Had To Give..!
Well once I had clambered back onto my chair, I sent a message to Dorina, thanking her for buying my humble offering... she wrote back; her English is way better than my Italian... actually it’s better than my English... and it’s genuinely lovely to think that someone I’ve never met, from a country I’ve visited once... for one day (Pompeii, amazing... but some serious renovation work needed...) would be willing to part with hard-earned money for one of my books.
I’m not sure how much £12.99 translates to in Euros – actually I am... €16.26 based on today’s exchange rate... but it’s a lot of money... although not quite as much as it would have been (or at least seemed) in Lire...something in the region of 30,000!!!
I’m not worth 30,000 anything!
It got me thinking about the other parts of the world where my work can be found... either in bookshelves or dustbins... I know for certain that apart from Italy, I have sold books to Australia, USA, Canada, Germany and
Belgium... and, I believe, Wolverhampton... But if you know of someone from another country who is brave enough to admit they own any of my books, then please let me know... if only to make me feel good about myself!
While I’m on the subject of geography, a friend of mine took the Marilyn book on holiday to Crete last year... Does that mean I can add Greece to the list?!
Anyway, I am going to end by thanking Dorina... and everyone who has bought, read and enjoyed (or at least claimed to...) anything what I wrote. Two shameless links/plugs to close... here’s to a sunny and happy weekend
wherever you may be...
All my own work... almost.
