A first for me today... there will be two blogs... this one will be about Bo Bruce... this evening’s won’t but is likely to be “controversial” because something I saw in
the newspaper yesterday has really annoyed me...
But for now, it’s Bo...
I’ve said a number of times that subjective opinions will vary... and I’ve seen that evidenced on certain forums where some have questioned Bo’s ability to sing
anything that doesn’t involve an element of “angst”... and that she couldn’t or shouldn’t win the competition as a result.
Well, one of the tracks on my “upbeat”commute-to-work CD is called Kiss in the Dark... a track Bo sang a few years ago when she was an unsigned hopeful on another show... I love the song, although Bo messaged me to say thanks, but that musically she had “moved on”...however, was it did prove was that “up-tempo” was no problem and whereas last night’s performance of Charlie Brown might have come as a (hopefully pleasant) surprise to some, this old man just sat and smiled a smug smile!
Before I go on, I know the result of last night’s public vote, but I’m not going to spoil it for anyone... for me, whether or not Bo was successful in The Voice was never the point. When I first heard her sing, it sent shivers down my spine – as has every performance since. Her vulnerability was evident... as was a clear need for acceptance, probably due to some degree to a background or upbringing she had never asked for, but was probably judged by...
Bo folded the winning hand that life had seemingly dealt her and even though private experiences and feelings have been offered for public consumption, one fact remains, Bo Bruce has a gift... a rare gift... she can affect and move people simply by singing... all of a sudden, much of the “history” is rendered irrelevant.
I noticed a couple of things last night... firstly Danny clearly thinks the world of Bo... I’ll be honest I’d never heard of him before the show started, but he seems a thoroughly likeable bloke who in the words of one wooden Welshman has done “a great job” with Bo.
Secondly, there was sparkle in Bo’s eyes last night... she has incredibly expressive eyes, but last night her whole face seemed to light up; as well as being a talented singer, she is also a very pretty young woman (something I’m allowed to say as the father of two beautiful daughters both of whom are in their twenties...).
As for who is in next week’s final, well you’ll just have to wait and see... and as for what the future holds for Bo Bruce... ditto... but as for last night’s performance; Bo you were brilliant...
All my own work... almost.
