On this day last year, I wrote a blog about Marilyn Monroe on what would have been her 85th birthday... so today (because I’m good at maths...) marks the 86th birthday of this truly remarkable woman.
I am currently part of the way through Michelle Morgan’s new book Marilyn Monroe: Private and Undisclosed and I am amazed at the sheer amount of research that Michelle has put into this fantastic piece of work...
Michelle’s dedication to doing justice to a subject for whom she clearly has both admiration and affection is obvious and I will certainly be devoting some of this weekend to a bit more reading...
There are other distractions of course; the Diamond Jubilee of another reasonably well-known lady born in 1926 will be taking centre stage... and on Sunday, fire crews will be on stand-by as Elaine attempts to cram four dozen candles onto the birthday cake of a certain aspiring writer...
It’s been an eventful few months on the personal book front... when my Marilyn bio Something Had to Give came to the attention of a number of devotees, Michelle included, I was unprepared for the warmth of the reception the book received. I am aware (and proud) of my slightly offbeat and relaxed writing style, but to receive positive comments about the content from people who have forgotten more than I’ll ever know about Marilyn Monroe... well that’s genuinely humbling.
I don’t honestly know how many people have been kind enough to buy the book... it must be quite a few because I need to use both hands when I start counting, but on this special day, I just want to say thank you to all of you... and to raise a glass to Marilyn... the birthday girl...
All my own work... almost.
