Although the book only has a working title (pending inspiration that has not been forthcoming thus far), this is the front cover of my neat little paperback about the various barmaids who have worked at the Rovers Return since December 1960.
On the basis that Marie Prevost has so far proved to be a subject too obscure for investment, I’m pretty confident that Coronation Street is slightly better known and whilst I’m keen to make sure I’m not out of pocket, I’m hoping that enough sales may (glass half empty) or will (glass now half full) eventually result in a worthwhile donation to Children in Need... oh yes, and an appearance on This Morning followed by a lucrative publishing deal...
I’m currently trying to arrange an interview with a member of the current cast who has pulled a pint or two in her time. I knew it wouldn’t be easy... but it’s harder than I thought. Whilst I might have enough influence in my own kitchen to decide what to cook for tea, that’s not really helping me try to persuade the Corrie press office to support a piece of work by some bloke they’ve never heard of... although he’s a half-decent cook apparently.
I’m going to try the nagging approach and then a bit of pleading, but if neither works, then the book will be proof read (several times... Maureen, are you there..?) and published in time for Santa. The book will be a bit different (you know me...) and will be littered with photos of the 54 barmaids, along with an in-depth look back at one significant storyline from each decade of the series... oh yes and you’ll also find out what links Coronation Street with the man in the picture below. Don’t Google; you’ll only spoil the surprise.
All my own work... almost.
